Your Favorite Book?



What was your favorite book as a middle-school or high school student? Do you remember what you read for fun - and why you loved it?

My favorite was the first LONG book I ever read: Mrs. Mike. It detailed the adventures of a young woman who married a Canadian mounty. It balanced romance with rugged adventures and even detailed an amputation. It pulled me far away from Wolcott Junior High School in Thornton, Illinois, into another world of snow and horses and drafty log cabins. I was sad to see it end!

What was one of your favorites at that age?

favorite books in middle school - i wish i could say something clever like Tolstoy or some classic, however, i was guilty of reading Janette Oke and Lori Wick. shameful, i know? maybe i shouldn't have even mentioned this... ;)

on the other hand, Louisa M. Alcott was one of my all time favorite authors and read many of her writings more than once!

Great conversation starter, Jamie. I think my favorite serious novels were several by celtic fantasy and Christian author Stephen R. Lawhead, and my favorite comic reads were (and might still be, next to Wodehouse) the Calvin & Hobbes collections. I remember reading through and enjoying the Sherlock Holmes stories as well - Ben

A book that has stayed with me since I first read it (junior high or early high school) was Watership Down. Intense, one of those books that sinks into your cells. Like Ben, I also read Stephen Lawhead's books, but my favorites forever are the Chronicles of Narnia.
